Norcross to Honor MLK’s Legacy at Historical Society on the 50th Anniversary of Dr. King’s Assassination
Congressman, Camden Reverend to Reflect on Recent Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Tennessee & Alabama
CAMDEN, NJ – On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) will be joined by local African American leaders and historians to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy at the Camden County Historical Society. Norcross and Reverend Chris Collins will discuss and share photos from their recent Congressional Civil Rights Pilgrimage in Memphis, Tennessee, and Birmingham, Montgomery and Selma, Alabama, where they visited notable sites and met with distinguished national leaders from the Civil Rights Movement.
“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy and teachings are as important today as they were during the Civil Rights Movement. Over the past year, we’ve seen a rise in hate crimes and white supremacy, and it is our obligation to continually stress that hate, violence, bigotry and racism have no place in our country,” said Congressman Donald Norcross. “As I visited where Dr. King was assassinated exactly 50 years ago, I thought about the Civil Rights Movement, how far we’ve come and how much more we need to achieve. As we reflect upon the struggles of the past and honor the life of an exceptional leader, let’s also re-commit ourselves to championing equal rights, love, truth and justice.”
