Norcross: Trump Must Only Be Talking to Billionaires; Workers Not Seeing Higher Wages
WASHINGTON, DC – Following President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross – an electrician by trade and member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce – released the following statement:
“What we heard tonight was the world according to a billionaire, for billionaires.
“There are over 152 million workers in this country who want a stronger economy for us all, but President Trump is bragging about the tax scam that gave 83% of the benefits to his buddies in the top 1%. Meanwhile, it’s been over 10 years since Congress voted to raise the minimum wage. America needs a raise!
“Many working men and women voted for candidate Trump because they believed his promise to rebuild our infrastructure, create jobs and raise wages. But now, President Trump is failing to deliver on his promises, and he’s only doing things to make the rich richer, divide Americans, and make our country less secure. This is worse than all talk and no action. Trump is all talk and bad actions.”
Norcross attended the State of the Union with Analilia Mejia, the Executive Director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance. Click here to read their joint op-ed ahead of the address about raising wages and fixing the rigged system.
Norcross said: “Analilia has spent her career fighting for hardworking New Jersey families. She is the perfect person to accompany me to the State of the Union as we stand up to the Trump Administration’s policies that only benefit billionaires and corporate interests.”
Mejia said: “I’m proud to join Congressman Donald Norcross, as we highlight the true plight of working families and assist his efforts to rebuild this nation’s commitment to making the American Dream a reality. For generations, this country kept a promise to its workers, promising a fair day’s work resulted in a fair day’s pay. This broken promise has resulted in increased economic insecurity for millions of Americans, but can be reversed through the efforts of Members of Congress like Representative Norcross, who are committed to raising Americans wages, securing common sense protections and promoting workers at every turn.”
