O’Rourke Steps Out of Congresional Race

Andover, NJ —  Today, Dr. Megan O'Rourke announced that she is leaving the Congressional race for New Jersey's Seventh District.

"I'm deeply appreciative of everyone who supported my campaign for Congress," said O'Rourke. "It was an honor to travel the district and meet so many people passionate about our communities and our country. We are facing so many challenges, but instead of giving up or succumbing to frustration, New Jerseyans are making their voices heard and getting involved so we can send someone to Congress who will fight for us.

"I ran for Congress because, as a lead climate scientist at the United States Department of Agriculture, I saw first hand the Trump Administration's efforts to attack and traumatize his own workforce and how he is now leading the country in the wrong direction. I knew we needed someone who would stand up to Donald Trump and demand real change and accountability—and we still do. But at this time, I have decided to take a step back, and look for other ways to make a difference.

"Our country will get back on the right track and, for now, I will work a bit differently toward that end. In the meantime, I want to express my sincere gratitude to my family for their support and everyone who offered their volunteer time, or encouragement. Each and every one of you have made this experience extremely worthwhile.”

About Dr. Megan O’Rourke

Dr. Megan O’Rourke ran for Congress in New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District in the Democratic primary. Megan grew up in a family of six in Blairstown. She earned her Ph.D. and ran a small farm before becoming a lead climate scientist at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). During her time with the USDA, Dr. O’Rourke was a labor leader and fought for workers’ rights. Dr. O’Rourke left the federal government in the Summer of 2025 because she could not work for an Administration that was taking America backwards on climate and advancing policies that raise costs and hurt working families.
