Senator Declan O’Scanlon (R-Monmouth) earned an “A+” rating and was named Champion of the Taxpayer by Americans for Prosperity-New Jersey in AFP’s Annual NJ Taxpayer Scorecard and during an awards ceremony at the Statehouse in Trenton yesterday.  The award recognizes O’Scanlon’s fight for New Jersey taxpayers during the 2016-2017 Legislative Session, his final session in the State Assembly prior to his election to the Senate.

Seventeen lawmakers scored as a “Champion of the Taxpayer,” fourteen with an “A+” rating.  This award is given to lawmakers who acted in the best interest of their constituents by pursuing policies that advance economic freedom during the legislative session. In order to obtain the “Champion” designation, legislators must score 90% or higher on the group’s Taxpayer Scorecard.

“It is an honor to be recognized by Americans for Prosperity-New Jersey for our hard-won fights during the last session,” Senator O’Scanlon said. “With the new administration, we must fight to protect and restore reforms already won—like the expired Interest Arbitration Cap which is local officials most important tool in controlling the growth of property taxes and our progress in restoring the fiscal health of the pension system which is threatened by reckless legislation that is up for a vote today–as well as continuing the fight against new taxation without meaningful and sound fiscal reform.
