Pallone, Pascrell Call for Comprehensive Flood Insurance Reform Legislation
Current House legislation fails to adequately protect Americans
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Reps. Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) and Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-09) released the following statement on national flood insurance legislation:
“Our constituents and all Americans deserve a long-term flood insurance program reauthorization that improves the program based on the realities experienced in the aftermath of major flooding and storms. In our home state of New Jersey and across the country, too many have suffered in the wake of disasters as insurance companies and the government failed to make good on their promises to homeowners. It’s time that Congress pass a long-term solution for NFIP that strengthens the claims process, has affordability safeguards to prevent premiums from being jacked up, and brings much-needed accountability to the WYO program.
“We deeply appreciate Chairwoman Waters’ commitment to a long-term reauthorization and her extensive work on this legislation. We know that important program improvements were made in the committee process. Currently, however, it is insufficient in meeting our priorities. As this process continues, we look forward to working with the Chairwoman and other stakeholders to make sure the flood insurance program addresses the needs of policy holders in New Jersey and across America.”
