Pascrell Applauds House Passage of the SECURE Act
Bill co-sponsored by Pascrell will expand opportunities for Americans to increase their retirement savings,
Fixes tax increase Republicans inflicted on surviving families of military and first responders
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) lauded the passage in the House of H.R. 1994, the bipartisan SECURE (Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement) Act. As New Jersey’s only member of the exclusive Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Pascrell helped advance this bill through committee passage last month.
Importantly, H.R. 1994 also includes a provision which will provide urgent tax relief to Gold Star families by repealing the so-called “widows’ tax increase” provision included in the ill-conceived Republican tax bill of 2017. Pascrell is a cosponsor of H.R. 2481, the Gold Star Family Tax Relief Act, authored by Rep. Elaina Luria (D-VA).
Rep. Pascrell takes to the House floor to rally support for the bipartisan SECURE Act
“Retirement should be about one thing above all others: security. If you’ve spent your life working your tail off, you have the absolute right to be able to relax without fear. This legislation is imbued with these commonsense principles and I am immensely proud of its passage today,” said Rep. Pascrell. “The SECURE Act also eliminates an unfair tax increase on the benefits of children in Gold Star military families that was caused by the GOP tax scam. To that end, it is fitting that the House has made this fix before Memorial Day and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to see this bill passed into law.”
