Pascrell Blasts Republicans Stymieing Tax Relief for New Jersey

House GOP representatives deny vote on Pascrell amendment repealing SALT cap

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), New Jersey’s only member on the House Ways and Means Committee, ridiculed Republicans for voting to block his amendment to the GOP Tax Scam 2.0 which would allow for a vote in the House to lift the cap on State and Local Tax Deductions (SALT). The resolution also blocked a Republican authored amendment on SALT.

“Some things never change. Snow in January, the Yanks in the playoffs, death and taxes, and a GOP tax scam pilfering from New Jersey. State and local tax deductions have been used by middle class New Jerseyans for decades to make mortgage payments, weather surprise medical costs, or afford college textbooks. And, importantly, they have allowed state and local governments to raise revenue for critical services without encroachment from the federal government. Under the GOP’s latest tax scam bill, these deductions would be permanently capped, and money taken from my state and others converted into corporate tax breaks. The amendment I offered would allow the entire House to vote on this egregious change. Republicans, including some of my colleagues who claim to want to remove the SALT caps, blocked this fix from even being considered on the House floor. The fight continues.”
