PATERSON, N.J. – Citing his “working tirelessly on behalf of [his] constituents and across the aisle to address gun violence,” the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence today endorsed Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr.’s campaign for Congress.

“No group has fought longer and harder against the plague of gun violence in America than the Brady Campaign and I am gratified beyond words to receive their endorsement,” said Congressman Pascrell (NJ-09). “A super-majority of Americans cry out every day for common sense gun safety measures whose passage can finally address the flood of tragic violence that threatens every American citizen. That means background checks, that means a ban on military-style assault weapons in our streets, and that means keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, domestic abusers, and extremists. I support each of those measures with every cell in my body. The courage James Brady showed in life inspires me, as does the leadership of the next generation that is working to save lives and forge a better America. The progress they have made in the last few years is incredible, and we are closer to true gun safety reforms than we’ve been in decades. I won’t cease fighting to end gun violence in America once and for all. I am proud to stand with the Brady Campaign in this battle.”

The Brady Campaign notes that all of its endorsed candidates “have a proven track record of supporting common-sense gun safety legislation” and highlights their support for H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, and H.R. 1112, Enhanced Background Checks of Act of 2019, bills both supported by Rep. Pascrell.

As Co-Chair of the Congressional Law Enforcement Caucus, Pascrell has worked year after year to ensure our nation’s law enforcement officers have resources to combat all types of gun violence. Pascrell has consistently been a cosponsor and strong supporter of legislation to create federal background checks and ban military-style weapons. Last Congress, Rep. Pascrell joined Rep. Danny Davis (D-IL) to introduce H.R.5103, the Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act. This legislation would increase the federal taxes on firearms and ammunition and devote the revenues to law enforcement programs to reduce gun violence, improvements to the background check system, and research into how to prevent gun violence.
