Pascrell Responds DOJ Opinion on Trump Tax Returns

PATERSON, NJ – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) issued the following statement in response to the Department of Justice’s opinion backing Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin’s refusal to furnish the Trump Tax Returns to Congress:

“That Trump and Barr drop this so-called legal opinion on a Friday evening says all there is about what they think of its merits. Section 6103 is crystal clear: the chairman has a legal right to see the Trump tax returns and the administration is required to give them. Full stop, no questions asked. The law is on the side of the people, not Trump. Thirty-three pages of pablum later from political hack lawyers in Barr’s world won’t change that. In short order I hope and expect we can move forward to file suit and enforce the law and subpoena seeking this critical information. Congress’s Article I authority must be respected.”
