A resolution by Senator Kristin Corrado (R-40) highlighting the importance of small businesses to New Jersey has been approved by the Senate.

“Many small business owners started with a dream of a better future,” Corrado said. “Through their hard work and determination, New Jersey’s small business leaders followed their dreams and created jobs for almost 2 million New Jerseyans in the process.”

Corrado’s bipartisan joint resolution, SJR-27, designates May of each year as “Small Business Month” in New Jersey.

New Jersey has more than 820,000 small businesses, comprising more than 98% of all New Jersey employers. Small businesses in the Garden State employ 1.7 million workers, more than half of the state’s workforce.

“New Jersey has a long tradition of mom-and-pop businesses,” Corrado added. “By honoring them through ‘Small Business Month,’ we can support their efforts, promote local commerce, and teach our children the importance of hard work.”

The legislation now heads to the Assembly for consideration.
