PBA PRESIDENT COLLIGAN HAMMERS FIFTH DISTRICT CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT LAYOFFS
WOODBRIDGE – Following today’s announcement that John McCann will be running for Congress in New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District, New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick Colligan released a statement highlighting McCann’s culpability in the layoff of dozens of law enforcement members.
“Over the years, we have gotten to know John McCann very well.  Well enough, in fact, to know that he is the wrong person to represent the interests of the law enforcement community in Congress.  Our members proudly serve our communities and face incredible risks and challenges on a daily basis. Now more than ever, we need leaders who will fight to ensure first responders have the resources they need to stay safe, protect our residents, and prevent acts of terrorism.  As the driving force behind the recent merger of the sheriff’s department with county police, John McCann is directly responsible for 24 layoffs and 19 demotions and has already proven he is simply not the leader we need to represent the Fifth Congressional District in Washington.”
