Peter Jacob, Democratic Candidate in NJ CD-7, to Host Nina Turner at New Jersey Rally
(PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Mar. 19, 2018) – Congressional candidate Peter Jacob will be hosting Our Revolution president Nina Turner at a rally and roundtable discussion to take place at Rutgers University’s Busch Campus Center in Piscataway, N.J. on April 7th at 12:30 p.m. Turner, a stalwart of the progressive movement, is a former state Senator from Ohio and current contributor for CNN.
“Nina has become an iconic leader for so many progressives who emerged as part of the Bernie Sanders political revolution,” said Jacob, the Democratic candidate who won the nomination to take on incumbent Republican Leonard Lance in 2016. “Americans everywhere have come to recognize Nina Turner as a champion for social and economic justice, so it is truly an honor to have her support for my 2018 campaign, along with the opportunity to share the same stage discussing the key issues of our grassroots movement.”
The Jacob 2018 Campaign is boldly advancing a People’s Platform to reclaim the American Dream, starting in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. Medicare-for-All health care reform, an end to the Citizens United ruling and the corrupt influence of big money in politics, and a living wage for all workers by increasing the minimum wage to $15 per hour are the foundation of Jacob’s vision for a rising tide of justice and prosperity for the state of New Jersey and the nation.
“We are proud to endorse Peter Jacob because his experience serving his community has prepared him to represent the people of New Jersey in Congress,” said Turner. “He will be a passionate advocate for our People’s Platform, legislation that creates the foundation for prioritizing the needs the people over excessive greed and lays out a vision for an economy that works for everyone.”
The son of immigrants from India, Peter Jacob’s career has included service as a community organizer, a licensed clinical social worker, and also as an integral part of his family’s successful small business. “Social workers have a unique perspective on the challenges facing our society’s most vulnerable members,” said Turner. Spearheading this year’s campaign to build on their groundbreaking 2016 effort that took a once-formidable Republican district and put it in play for the 2018 blue wave of Democratic support, Jacob is committed to growing the progressive base in CD-7.
Outreach efforts by the Jacob 2018 campaign are aggressively expanding in the wake of the momentum of the endorsement from Turner’s national Our Revolution organization, as well as Justice Democrats and Brand New Congress. Jacob’s history with Our Revolution goes back to his 2016 effort when he was among the core group of 100 initial candidates endorsed nationwide, in addition to gaining the endorsement and fundraising support of Senator Bernie Sanders. With the narrowing of a field that once included nine declared candidates, Jacob is one of four contenders remaining in the mix.
