Peterson questions Murphy’s priorities as power outages

continue to plague Hunterdon and Warren residents

TRENTON, N.J. – With another nor’easter set to hit the state tonight and power still out in Hunterdon, Warren and Somerset counties, Assemblyman Erik Peterson said Gov. Phil Murphy’s failure to declare a state of emergency shows some counties are clearly not Murphy’s priority.

“It’s blatantly obvious residents living in Republican counties are not a high priority for this governor,” said Peterson (R-Hunterdon). “The governor is holding a press conference today about the next nor’easter when he still hasn’t declared a state of emergency to help towns affected from Friday’s storm.”

Friday’s nor’easter left more than 300,000 New Jerseyans without power at the storm’s height. The bulk of the outages are in Hunterdon, Morris and Sussex counties.

“The northwest part of the state got hammered. More than 20,000 people are still in the dark and dealing with freezing temperatures at night, debris litters our roads and schools remain closed in my district,” Peterson continued.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, and the Hudson Valley of New York. Heavy snow is expected Wednesday and Wednesday night.
