Pinkin on Threat of Climate Change to NJ

(TRENTON) – Following yesterday’s joint hearing of the Assembly and Senate Environment Committees on how New Jersey is being impacted by climate change and the State’s response to growing environmental concerns, Assemblywoman Nancy Pinkin (D-Middlesex), chair of the Assembly committee, released the following statement:

“Climate change is hiding in plain sight in New Jersey. We see it in our hotter summers, our rising sea levels and severe weather events like Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Irene. Climate change impacts each and every one of New Jersey’s residents, and we must be diligent in our efforts to combat the threat it poses to our public health and wellbeing.

“The testimony we heard Thursday from experts working to address climate change gave us a better understanding of how our State is working to build a more sustainable future. In the past year alone, we’ve invested in the solar industry, installed electric vehicle charging stations around the State, made strides to protect our coastal communities, taken steps to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and educated residents about the seriousness of our changing environment.

“We have a responsibility to tackle these issues for the health and safety of our children, grandchildren and future generations to come.”
