Plainfield Mayor Mapp to Deliver State of the City on Thursday
On Thursday February 15th, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Community School, Plainfield Mayor Adrian O. Mapp and the Plainfield City Council will host the 2018 State of the City Address. At the State of the City, Mayor Mapp will share the highlights of what was accomplished in 2017 and lay out a plan and vision for building on Plainfield’s successes.
“2017 was an outstanding year for the city of Plainfield,” said Mayor Adrian Mapp. “Our city experienced unprecedented economic growth and development. And, as I promised when I was sworn in over 4 years ago, we left no ward behind. There are redevelopment projects underway in every neighborhood of our resurging city. Additionally, we made recreational opportunities for our youth a top priority. We opened the city’s first skate park and completed a multi-million dollar renovation of Seidler Field. Together, we are creating a vibrant and more prosperous Plainfield, and I could not be more excited about our future.”
The State of the City will also feature a special presentation of the results of the Vision 2025 Initiative, Plainfield’s first comprehensive and community-led strategic planning initiative in decades. This groundbreaking effort consisted of a series of public “listening sessions” that ran through late October.
The sessions included: Economic Development and Vibrancy, Workforce Development and Adult Learning, Health, Human and Social Needs, Childhood and Youth Education, Public Safety, Community Arts and Culture, Municipal Government, Essential Services Performance, and Connecting Community.
In addition to the “listening sessions,” an online survey was launched and a “Playback Session” in the form of a public meeting took place in early November. All of the recommendations were compiled by the Plainfield Vision 2025 Executive Committee and used to create a blueprint for the city’s future. The final plan was delivered to Mayor Mapp on January 15th, 2018.
