Rahway Dem Chair endorses Scutari for UCDC Chair
RAHWAY DEMOCRATIC CHAIR ENDORSES NICK SCUTARI FOR CHAIRMAN OF THE U.C. DEMOCRATIC PARTY; COMMITS ALL 48 COMMITTEE VOTES
Today the Rahway Democratic Chair, Kevin O’Brien has announced his endorsement for Senator Nicholas Scutari to be re-elected as Union County Democratic Chair at the Tuesday, June 12, 2019 re-organization meeting.
Chairman O’Brien, speaking on behalf of the entire Rahway Democratic City Committee, called for unity, “The time is now to unify the party. The time is now to come together for the benefit of the Democrats we represent. I wholeheartedly believe Senator Scutari will continue to unify this party”
The moto of the Rahway Democrats is ‘We believe that cooperation is better than conflict, unity is better than division, empowerment is better than resentment & bridges are better than walls. We are stronger together.’
“I call on all Democratic Chairs of Union County to leave differences aside, come together, and stand behind Senator Scutari for the sake of the party. We Democrats must set an example of unity. There is no Democratic community without unity. Today’s endorsements of Chairman Scutari by Hillside Chair Salters and Winfield Chair McManus show that they are also calling for unity of the party. We have a lot of work ahead of us with the upcoming presidential election in 2020. We will accomplish much more when we become whole again.
In 2018, Rahway cast 47 of their 48 votes for Senator Scutari to fill the vacancy of the Chairmanship due to the passing of Assemblyman Green. This year Rahway has committed all 48 Democratic Committee votes to the Senator to be re-elected as Chairman.
The June 4th primary election resulted in a low voter turn-out with only 9,560 of 161,849 or 5.9% of registered Democrats voting. “This low voter turnout shows us people are not engaged in off-year elections. We need to focus on building a stronger foundation of Democrats and nurturing future leaders of the Democratic Party and engaging our youth to get involved. Without a strong foundation, the party will fall.” said O’Brien. “Scutari has done an outstanding job for the party this past year. Let’s let him continue his work.”
