RENTCafé Study: These are the most expensive ZIP codes in New Jersey
At the end of a hot rental season, RENTCafé took the time to analyze the most expensive ZIP codes in the U.S. We looked at almost 4,400 ZIP codes in over 130 markets and created a national ranking, as well as regional and state rankings.
With a few notable exceptions, New Jersey’s most exclusive ZIP codes for renters are located on the West side of the Hudson River.
These are the most expensive ZIP codes in New Jersey:
- Hoboken’s ZIP code 07030 opens our ranking with an average rent of $3,531 after a 2.7% annual growth. For months now, the city has led the state’s rental market with the highest prices.
- Jersey City snatches the next 2 spots in the list, as ZIP codes 07310 and 07302 boast average rents of $3,297 and $3,291, respectively.
- Unsurprisingly, Edgewater, Weehawken and Fort Lee make it to the top with ZIP codes 07020 ($3,219), 07086 ($3,005) and 07024 ($2,595), respectively. Weehawken also registers the highest annual increase — 3.9%.
- Further away from the Hudson coastline, Cranford, Florham Park, and South Orange, each hold one of the most exclusive areas for rent. Cranford’s ZIP code 07016 is the most expensive of the three, reaching an average of $2,956, and occupying the 6th spot in our list.
