Rep. Pascrell Statement on White House Plan to Levy Tariffs on Steel, Aluminum Imports
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), Ranking Member on the Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee, released the following statement regarding President Trump’s plan to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports:
“The chaos coming from this White House does not bode well for crafting sensible trade policy. Chinese companies subsidized by their government have unfairly flooded our market with cheap steel and aluminum for too long, at the cost of American manufacturing jobs. Delays in action by this Administration have caused imports of steel and aluminum to surge and our trade deficit to hit record highs. We need meaningful action to support American industry and American workers. President Trump’s continued delay threatens American jobs, destabilizes markets, and unsettles our closest allies. In order to combat China’s bad behavior and craft a durable solution, this administration must work with Congress, U.S. stakeholders, and our trading partners. Let’s get it done.”
