War Powers Resolution Addresses the Staggering Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) supported the passage of a War Powers Resolution, S.J.Res. 7. It directs the removal of U.S. Forces from hostilities in Yemen that have not been authorized by Congress, except those engaged in operations directed at al-Qaeda or its associated forces.
“Congress reasserted its constitutional duty over authorizing the use of military force,” said Congresswoman Sherrill. “I supported this overdue effort to bring an end to the terrible humanitarian crisis in Yemen. It is my hope that this is the first step towards a diplomatic solution to end a civil war that has claimed the lives of as many as 85,000 children and displaced 2.3 million people.”
Congresswoman Sherrill served in the U.S. Navy for nine years and is a member of the House Armed Services Committee.
