Rep. Watson Coleman Statement Opposing Stopgap Spending Bill
“I have little faith in any deal offered by a Republican Congress and Republican President that have continuously fallen short on their promises to the American people.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) released the following statement in response to the deal made to end the Trump Shutdown:
“I voted no on the continuing resolution because it does nothing to address the priorities that are so critical to New Jerseyans and the American people. The deal agreed to by the Senate does not guarantee funding for essential community health centers, resources to combat the opioid crisis, nor does it protect Dreamers. Quite frankly, I am skeptical of the ability of Republicans to reach any long-term agreement considering the leader of their party, Donald Trump, was left out of these negotiations. Throughout this process, this President has failed to provide adequate leadership and a clear understanding of what he wants and what he is willing to sign into law.
Congressional Republicans must abandon their efforts to govern on their own. In the next three weeks, we must work together to fully fund vital government programs, provide adequate relief to our natural disaster victims and community health centers, and protect the 800,000 Dreamers from deportation. I have little faith in any deal offered by a Republican Congress and Republican President that have continuously fallen short on their promises to the American people.”
