Congressional Delegation to Participate in American, International Remembrance Ceremonies

Washington, DC – Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) departed with a bipartisan Congressional Delegation this afternoon to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, the largest amphibious assault in world history that marked the turning point of World War II. The Congressional Delegation will participate in ceremonies to honor the American and Allied servicemembers who fought and gave their lives on D-Day.

“My grandfather served as a pilot with the Army Air Corps, and he was shot down over Normandy in August 1944,” said Representative Sherrill. “His stories and service inspired me to join the Navy and guide me now as a Member of Congress. I am honored to have the opportunity to commemorate the brave Americans who fought and gave their lives on the beaches of Normandy 75 years ago, and to reaffirm the alliances that keep us strong today.”

Representative Mikie Sherrill is a former U.S. Navy helicopter pilot and Russia policy officer. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee.
