REPUBLICAN MAYORAL CANDIDATE DAVID HENDERSON FILES A PETITION CHALLENGE APPEALING DESCREPANCIES IN THE NOMINATING PETITION OF YAEDE, BALGOWAN AND CAPODANNO
Hamilton, NJ – Republican Mayoral Candidate David Henderson this afternoon submitted a formal challenge to the nominating petition presented by incumbent Kelly Yaede and her two Democrat Council Nominees Richard Balgowan and Vinnie Capadonna citing discrepancies in the form and content of their document. Henderson delivered the challenge documents to Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami-Covello at the County Building on South Broad Street in Trenton and to Hamilton Township Clerk Eileen Gore at the Hamilton Municipal Building on Greenwood Avenue in Hamilton.
Candidate Henderson said, “I found it curious that the mayor, who proclaims to have the full force of the Hamilton Township Republican Party behind her, could only muster 117 signatures on her petition.” A comparison of those 117 signers and the list Yaede release earlier this month of those who endorsed her revealed not one name on her list was on the petition. Henderson also said, “I was shocked when the clerk only validated 61 of the 117 names on the list as eligible to sign her petition. When my campaign staff and I did our review, we felt that there are further discrepancies and by exercising my right to submit a challenge those further discrepancies will be reviewed by authorities outside Hamilton Township who do not have a vested interest in the paycheck that the mayor signs for them.” There appeared to be several instances where voter records are not available and at least one instance where there’s a duplicate that was included in the clerks count.
Records at the Hamilton Clerk indicated that Henderson’s petition contained 249 signers.
