Rev. Derrick Green Joins Fulop Campaign as Senior Advisor

An Architect of Successful Campaigns for Gov. Phil Murphy & Gov. Wes Moore, Green Will Take on Major Policy/Political/Outreach Role on Fulop for Governor Campaign

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The Fulop for Governor campaign is announcing the addition of Rev. Derrick L. Green to its senior leadership team. One of New Jersey’s most experienced and successful political operatives, including leading the efforts resulting in Governor Phil Murphy receiving 94% of the African American vote in 2017 and 2021, Green will serve the Fulop campaign as Senior Advisor for Policy and Political Engagement, working to build support for the Jersey City Mayor among base Democratic voters and advise him on major policy initiatives.

“I’m honored to join Mayor Steven Fulop’s campaign because I’ve seen the work he’s done in Jersey City to lift up underserved communities and provide much needed resources to help people thrive, and now he’s ready to extend that kind of leadership across New Jersey,” said Rev. Green. “New Jersey is finally stronger and fairer for many communities who for decades if not centuries have been underserved and marginalized. These communities cannot afford to go back to those days — this work must be a daily commitment. Steven Fulop has the experience, the commitment and the vision to move our state forward and continue to improve quality of life for residents across New Jersey, from our urban areas to suburban and rural communities. I’m excited to get to work and join the outstanding team that Mayor Fulop is building.”

Rev. Green served in senior leadership roles on Governor Phil Murphy’s 2017 and 2021 campaigns, where he helped direct policy, political, outreach and GOTV efforts in the African American community and in faith-based organizations. He was also instrumental in the 2022 election of Governor Wes Moore of Maryland as Senior Advisor for Field Operations. Green was appointed by Governor Murphy as Senior Advisor for Diversity, Faith, Urban and Regional Growth in 2018 and served in the administration for three and a half  years before moving to the re-election campaign.

“With his experience in political campaigns, government and in the community, Derrick Green will add a significant new dimension to our campaign and I’m excited to welcome him to our team,” said Mayor Fulop. “We’re continuing to build a campaign that New Jersey can be proud of and that everyday people can feel invested in, with a goal of creating a real statewide movement — Derrick will be a critical part of that effort.”

The Fulop for Governor campaign released the second of its #FixNJ in-depth policy initiatives last week focused on Housing and Economic Development, and hosted a virtual forum on Monday night where over 150 participants joined to discuss the plan and ask questions, once again showcasing the significant grassroots interest and enthusiasm for his campaign. Fulop also announced recently that his campaign had surpassed the full matching funds threshold for the 2025 Primary Election, a critical milestone that he reached faster than any candidate in state history.
