Rush Statement on Suleiman and the Press of AC Article Regarding the 2nd District Congressional Primary

A recent press release from Carolyn Rush’s primary campaign for NJ’s 2^nd Congressional District was picked up by the Press of AC and run under the erroneous headline: “Democratic congressional candidate attacks own party leaders.”

Not so! The “attack” cited only one “leader” – Mike Suleiman the Atlantic County Democratic Committee Chair stating he has actively engaged “in anti-democratic efforts to subvert voter and candidate participation in our democratic process.”

Suleiman responded by falsely claiming Ms. Rush  said the AC Convention was “fixed.” While she never said that,  she strongly believes Suleiman abused his authority as Atlantic County  Committee Chair to unduly influence other CD2 County Chairs to support his preferred candidate.

It’s time for Mr. Suleiman to step down as chair.  New leadership is needed.  With the right leader, the county will be able to build a better and more inclusive democratic party bringing back the people the machine alienated. Then the party can put forth candidates with winning platforms; giving the voters someone to vote for.  Carolyn Rush will fight for a strong middle-class economy, curbing the effects of climate change and women’s right including the right to an abortion.  She is a candidate for the people!
