Schaffer Running Unopposed for Fifth Term As Somerset County Democratic Chair
Peg Schaffer Will Run Again with Vice Chair Joe DeMarco at Party Convention on June 17
SOMERVILLE, NJ – Following a decade of unprecedented Democratic success in Somerset County under her leadership, Somerset County Democratic Chair Peg Schaffer will run unopposed for another term. She has once again selected Vice Chair Joe DeMarco as her running mate to lead the organization for the next four years. Per state statute, the Somerset County Democratic Committee will meet on June 17 to select their leadership for the next four years.
“When I was first elected Chair in 2006 Somerset County was seen as an unwinnable territory for Democrats, but through hard work, partnerships, and good government we have completely turned that around,” said Schaffer. “Our party is working together in lockstep to expand those gains at every level, in particular this year by helping the Democratic Party take back Congress to protect our democracy.”
In 2026 Somerset County Democrats have two women veterans running for Congress in Rebecca Bennett of Bridgewater in CD7 and Somerset County Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson of Franklin in CD12. Commissioners Paul Drake and Elizabeth Graner are running for reelection, and gains are expected in multiple communities from Bernardsville to Hillsborough to Watching.
