Senate Majority Leader Ruiz Named One of The Hill’s Top Women Shaping Policy
Inaugural List Honors 50 Women Leading Change Across the Nation
TRENTON – As Senate Majority Leader, M. Teresa Ruiz has become not only one of the most influential voices shaping public policy in New Jersey but also a nationally recognized leader whose policies in education, public health, and economic opportunity are informing change across the country.
In recognition of her leadership and advocacy, The Hill named Senator Ruiz to its inaugural “Top Women Shaping Policy” list, honoring 50 women who are building influence and making a lasting impact in Washington and state capitols across the United States.
In its list, The Hill noted that Senate Majority Leader Ruiz was the first Puerto Rican elected to the state Senate and is the highest-ranking Latina in state history—shattering barriers and redefining leadership in the State Legislature.
The publication cited Senator Ruiz’s work to expand New Jersey’s free school meals program, strengthen early childhood education, and advance gun safety legislation as key policy initiatives that have improved the lives of children and families across the state.
“I am honored and humbled to share this recognition during Women’s History Month with so many inspiring women who are breaking the mold and shaping their communities from one corner of the country to the other,” said Senate Majority Leader Ruiz (D-Essex/Hudson). “Behind every challenge we face in public service, there is a woman building a coalition, working overtime on legislation, and lending a voice to the unheard—sparking progress and creating new opportunities for the next generation. We stand on the shoulders of the trailblazers and trendsetters who came before us, and seeing the fruits of their labor — and ours — flourishing across the country is both motivating and deeply moving. Congratulations to all of the honorees, and let us continue to lift one another up and advocate for policy that builds a more equitable and promising tomorrow for all.”
