Senate President Nick Scutari Helps Raise Over $10K for VFW in Hometown

Union County Democratic Committee reorganized Tuesday night and voted to return Senator Nick Scutari to his position as chairman, while Assemblywoman Linda Carter was voted in as Vice Chair.

(LINDEN) Senate President Nick Scutari hosted an event Monday evening, co-sponsored by the Union County Democratic Committee, the New Jersey State Democratic Committee’s Veterans Caucus and non-profit Vet4U, which raised over $10,000 for the VFW Post #1397 in his hometown of Linden.
The event was organized to help the VFW Post, which was destroyed by a fire in late June, raise funds for its rebuild and repairs. An estimated 150 veterans, supporters, and elected officials from across Union County were in attendance.
“Our local VFW has been a pillar of the community for generations of veterans. This is the least we could do to help get their Post up and running again. I hope we were able to provide a fun evening and also give their fundraising drive some much deserved recognition and a kickstart,” said Senate President Scutari, who also serves as the Chairman of the Union County Democratic Committee. “The support from the community has been overwhelming and we’ve been told by lots of folks who couldn’t make it this evening that they would be mailing checks to the VFW Post to show their support.”
The Senate President was joined by State VFW Commander Jay Boxwell who stressed the Linden VFW Post’s credentials as an All-American Post and highlighted its active Auxiliary as one of its many strengths, Linden VFW Commander Dennis Costello thanked the organizers and highlighted this as an example of the strength of the Linden VFW’s community. Other guests included Senator Joe Cryan, Assemblywoman Linda Carter, Assemblyman Reginald Atkins, Union County Commissioners Chris Hudak and Bette Jane Kowalski, Mayors Derek Armstead of Linden and Donald Shaw of Roselle, and many, many more.
“It’s great that we had this opportunity to throw an event where all proceeds could go directly to our hometown heroes. It was a privilege to play a small role in supporting those who fought for our country,” said Scutari
