Senator Andy Kim to Hold Town Hall as Gateway Tunnel Project Work is
Suspended Due to Trump's Months-Long Funding Freeze
JERSEY CITY, NJ – As New Jersey prepares for the Gateway Tunnel Project to go ‘shovels down’ on Friday due to lack of funding and as a result of the Trump Administration’s decision to withhold billions in allocated federal funds, Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) announced he will be holding a telephone town hall on Friday, February 6th at 6:30 pm to discuss the Gateway Tunnel Project and the need for federal funding to continue so the project can be seen through.
Senator Kim will discuss the implications of this pause for New Jersey commuters, including further delays towards the much-needed transit and infrastructure upgrades for millions across the state, and respond directly to New Jerseyans’ questions and concerns.

In October 2025, the Trump Administration froze $18 billion in federal funds for the Gateway construction project, which will reverse the years of work that New Jersey’s Congressional Delegation has done to secure funding to upgrade and improve critical transportation infrastructure across the state. Senator Kim has been a strong advocate of improving and updating New Jersey’s transportation systems, joining the New Jersey congressional delegation in demanding the release of federal funds for the Gateway construction project, earlier this year.
