Senator Kim: “The American People Are Tired of the Lies. We Owe it to them to Take a Stand.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Kim joined fellow Senate Democrats in speaking out against proposed funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after the brutal killing of American citizens by federal agents in Minneapolis and additional shootings by DHS. Voicing the anxieties and anger of millions across the nation, the Senator echoed his calls for immediate accountability and outlined steps the Trump administration must take to give the American people the security they deserve.
“People can watch the video of the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti at the hands of federal agents and see that something is wrong and it isn’t over. They can watch videos of masked men roaming through neighborhoods or physically assaulting people peacefully protesting and see that something is wrong...
We owe it to the American people to take a stand. We owe it to them to give them the security they deserve. We owe it to them to vote NO on this appropriations bill.”

During his floor remarks, Senator Kim outlined clear demands for the administration to uphold the truth and ensure accountability:
“There are things that this Administration can do TODAY to restore that sense of safety and security. For instance, they can pull ICE and CBP agents out of their operations in Minnesota and Maine, and deescalate the fear American communities are facing.
“...It’s not that we see this in the rearview mirror, the murder and killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, people are wondering is this just the beginning, how long is this going to go on, and is it going to get worse. That is the fear people are feeling is something this administration can immediately bring down if they pull these agents out.
“This administration can also allow and clearly articulate the need for an independent investigation. Investigations into the murder of Renee Good – of Alex Pretti – actually in terms of all 12 shootings DHS agents, since September of last year, have conducted. Those deserve the same level of transparency and accountability. The reason why we need this is because there is no trust right now. There is no trust right now from the American people into having DHS, or this administration as a whole, investigate themselves...”
“And this Administration can fire their leaders that clearly have zero credibility with the American people right now. Stephen Miller, Tom Homan, and Secretary Noem and others who have purposefully weaponized our government for their own political agendas.”
Senator Kim outlined the danger of ignoring the deeper rot of corruption within the Trump administration’s leadership, including how Donald Trump, Tom Homan, Stephen Miller, and Kristi Noem continue to use, “the tools that were meant to keep us safe and distorting them to grow their own power and fuel their own corruption.”
“[The American people] know that the masked men flooding into our communities are not accountable to them. They know people like Stephen Miller, who I’ve called the most dangerous man in America, is not accountable to them. And the American people are tired of it,” Senator Kim stated.
He made clear that the question of voting for the DHS funding bill is one about "whether we continue to fund their efforts to use these tools against the American people and for their own twisted agenda.” He continued, “We need to vote NO on funding DHS as this bill currently stands because it is not going to make us more safe and secure.”
