Sierra Club: Senator Gordon Goes to the BPU
Senator Gordon Goes to the BPU
State Senator Bob Gordon (D-38) is going to the Board of Public Utilities (BPU). Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club, released the following statement:
“We believe that Bob Gordon is a great choice to hold a position on the BPU. He’s very knowledge about renewable energy but on electrifying our transportation system. We’ve endorsed him every time he’s run for office because he’s a real environmental leader. As Chair of the Senate Legislative Oversight Committee, Senator Gordon has worked to make offshore wind a reality, holding a hearing on the implementation of the Offshore Wind Economic Development Act. We want to thank Governor Murphy for naming someone to the BPU who cares about renewable energy and creating green jobs.
“Senator Gordon has lead the charge to protect New Jersey’s waterways from dangerous fracking wastes. He sponsored legislation to ban the drilling practice in the state and to ban the treatment of fracking wastes. He has also called on the Delaware River Basin Commission to delay the adoption of natural gas development regulations that would allow for drilling in the Basin and the withdrawal of water and discharge of fracking wastewater in New Jersey. He’s also been a champion on holding the Port Authority accountable and helping to improve transportation in New Jersey.
“It’s important to have Bob Gordon sitting on the BPU to fight for clean energy. We need to electrify our transportation system including installing charging networks and increasing EVs. The BPU can begin programs to do this and to finance other types of renewable energy. Senator Gordon will be an ally for solar and wind energy on the Board of Public Utilities. The Legislature’s loss will be the BPU’s gain and the Senator Gordon will be a great addition to the agency.”
