Sires Team Supports Moving Ahead with State Building a New School in WNY, Calls Out Opponents for Opposing Much-Needed Project

WEST NEW YORK, N.J. — The Sires Team for West New York is committing that it will work with state and local officials to build a previously approved new school in town. After endorsing the Your Children’s Future team – consisting of Henry Codina, Aylen Jover, Sandra Pfeil, and Stephanie Gonzalez – for the Board of Education, Albio Sires announced the New Jersey School Development Authority is moving ahead with the planning of a new school in West New York on Broadway in between 64th and 65th Street. The New Jersey

School Development Authority has owned this plot of land for over 10 years and cited overcrowding, as well as other critical needs, for the reason why a new school is needed in West New York, which is widely known to have been planned for many years and desperately needed by the school district.

Even though the school is much-needed and would come at no additional tax expense to residents of West New York, Cosmo Cirillo and the Forward Team are opposing it and apparently willing to throw away over $65 million in state school construction funding which the State of New Jersey will not allow to be moved to another location.

“This will be the first new school that will be built in over a decade in West New York, and we cannot comprehend why Commissioner Cirillo and the Forward Team would be against a new school for the children of the community, especially when there is no cost to local taxpayers and a new school is needed for the education of local children,” said Sires Team spokesman Phil Swibinski. “They know the New Jersey School Development Authority owns the lot and that it was approved for a school. It is illegal to make this anything else other than a school and the New Jersey School Development Authority will not allow the property to be used for any other purpose. Once again, the Forward Team is misleading the public, just like they did with their fake number of petitions.”

The Sires Team for West New York previously announced its support for building a new community recreation center in town. There are several better locations available in the center of town for a recreation center.

“We can have both a new recreation center and a new school in town,” said Sires. “Why would we even consider turning away millions of state dollars that are already committed for West New York that might never be available again for a new school? That doesn’t sound very forward thinking.”
