Solomon to McGreevey: Return Money From Developers Who Allegedly Conspired To Illegally Raise Rents

Jersey City, NJ - In his campaign for mayor of Jersey City, Jim McGreevey and his council slate have taken $62,600 from employees of and PACs associated with the LeFrak developers who were recently sued by the Attorney General of New Jersey for “allegedly colluding in a rent-raising scheme that violated state and federal antitrust and consumer protection laws and forced tens of thousands of New Jerseyans to overpay for rent month after month.” In reaction, Jersey City Mayoral candidate James Solomon issued the following statement:

“Jim McGreevey has been happy to take campaign donations from these crooked developers who allegedly schemed against tenants, which is why he should do the right thing and send the money back. Jersey City’s hard working renters deserve to have a mayor who is on their side, not one that has filled his campaign coffers with donations from developers quick to sell out the people of Jersey City for their own bottom line. As Mayor, I will only be on the side of renters and will take on greedy landlords who buy politicians to get sweetheart deals that don’t benefit us.”
