Speaker Coughlin on Recent Reports on Long-Term Healthcare Industry

(TRENTON) – Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement on the recent investigative report on the long-term healthcare industry and CareOne:

“Covid-19 pandemic has brought to light the many inefficiencies in the long-term healthcare system in our state. Recent investigative reports involving Care One reveals a system overwhelmed and unable to handle critical care for our elderly and disabled. The stories were infuriating and heartbreaking to learn.

“We have taken a step toward addressing statewide concerns in the Legislature and listen to families and professionals in the industry. The bottom line is that there is a serious problem with long-term healthcare and more must be done to help the patients in these facilities. I commend Senator Joseph Vitale and Assemblywoman Valerie Huttle for their leadership on the joint committee looking at the long term industry. I look forward to their efforts resulting in meaningful reforms.”
