State Gives Hamilton Animal Shelter Satisfactory Report in Follow-Up Inspection

The State of New Jersey’s Department of Health has given the Hamilton Township Animal Shelter a Satisfactory report following a recent follow-up inspection.

Dr. Colin Campbell’s inspection report was provided to Hamilton officials this week, confirming that the town’s shelter now meets the state’s highest level of conditions – a satisfactory grade.

“After addressing all previously cited issues and making additional, proactive improvements, this new State report confirms that Hamilton’s Animal Shelter is meeting State requirements in a satisfactory manner,” says Hamilton Mayor Kelly Yaede.

Some of the shelter’s recent changes, include:

  • A move to Electronic Documentation of shelter pet records
  • New Operational Procedures
  • Expanded Volunteer Opportunities
  • A move toward non-euthanasia practices
  • And the hiring of a new, Supervising Veternarian for the shelter

“Now that the State has concluded its re-inspection, I look forward to our community’s shelter being able to return its focus toward promoting adoptions and finding our shelter pets loving, forever homes,” says Mayor Yaede.

Last month, Hamilton announced Dr. Marian Boden, a 22-year veterinarian who practices at Columbus Central Veterinary Hospital, as its shelter’s new supervising veterinarian.  As part of her role with Hamilton’s Animal Shelter, Dr. Boden’s responsibilities include providing guidance on shelter policies and procedures, animal care and treatment and conducting monthly site inspections.

“I look forward to working together with the staff at Hamilton Animal shelter in continuing to care for the lost and stray animals in the Hamilton area,” Dr. Boden said at the time of the announcement.
