Statement of Councilman Augusto Amador regarding June 12, 2018 Runoff and Campos Election Challenge

“On the virtual eve of trial  , and on Wednesday this past week , my opponent in the June 12, 2018 run off election for East Ward councilman , Anthony Campos,  folded  . He conceded the certified results of the run off election as he unilaterally advised my attorney through his lawyer that he chose to dismiss with prejudice his challenge to my election.

Campos’ challenge to this election from the start was without basis . When the time came for him to make his case , there was none to be made .  So Campos walked away , but only after disrupting the lives of dozens of our neighbors , challenging their right to vote by personally serving subpoenas on them in their homes. His charade of an election challenge required City ,County and State election officials to spend time , energy and tax payer dollars to go on a fishing expedition to try to locate “evidence ” to support his ill intended claims , all while in the midst of one the most important November elections  of our life time.  And his desperate election challenge diverted precious judicial resources for a case that lacked merits in the first  place.

We should not be fooled by any conciliatory or explanatory statements Campos now makes purporting to heal the wounds he has inflicted on our East Ward community and the integrity of many residents who voted and participated in this runoff .  We should not accept any apology for his having impugned the integrity of our election officials who performed admirably in this election. And we should not buy the spin Campos tries to put on this outcome.  Bottom line is that it takes a quality candidate for public office to accept the people’s verdict . Anthony Campos apparently could not do that”  .
