Statement from Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill on the NJ-11 Special Election Primary for Congress

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Today, Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill, former candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District, released the following statement:

“Since announcing my campaign for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District in November, I was the only candidate to make a clear and public commitment: I would support the Democratic nominee who emerged from the special election primary—both in the special general election and in the June Democratic primary. That commitment mattered then, and it matters now. That is why I immediately endorsed Analilia Mejia following her victory on Thursday night.”

“I made this pledge because this election has never been about any one candidate—it is about honoring the will of the voters, building a stronger Democratic Party, defeating MAGA extremism, and defending our  precious democracy. For more than two decades, I have stood shoulder to shoulder with Democrats up and down the ballot, and I will continue to do so by proudly supporting Analilia Mejia. She is a principled, proven progressive who will carry our shared values into this campaign and fight for them every day in Washington, D.C. And where we may disagree on policy, we will come together, listen, and work collaboratively to move our district and our country forward.”
