ABC-NJ CALLS OUT GOV. SHERRILL FOR MAKING NJ CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS MORE UNAFFORDABLE FOR NJ TAXPAYERS, DISCRIMINATING AGAINST WOMEN AND MINORITY WORKERS

Samantha Roman, President of Associated Builders and Contractors New Jersey (ABC-NJ) issued the following statement in regards to Governor Mikie Sherrill calling on the New Jersey Turnpike Authority Board to require Project Labor Agreements on the $6.7 billion Newark Bay Bridge program:

“Governor Sherrill promised to make New Jersey more affordable for taxpayers, but in her second month in office she’s urging the New Jersey Turnpike Authority to adopt expensive Project Labor Agreements on the Newark Bay Bridge project. This will undoubtedly increase the cost of this project for all taxpayers, as Project Labor Agreements have been proven to do in study after study.

“Moreover, this move would effectively shut out 98 percent of local women and minority-owned firms who are non-union. For someone who’s championed the importance of diversity during her campaign, it’s disappointing that Governor Sherrill is putting politically-connected labor unions ahead of taxpayers, local construction workers, and minority and women-owned businesses.”
