I am heartbroken by the passing of my dear friend Sandra Cunningham. Sandra had a remarkable heart, reflected in her love for cats and her unwavering compassion for people who needed someone in their corner.

I was proud to stand beside her as she fought for automatic expungement and championed “ban the box” efforts on employment and rental applications. She believed that people who had paid their debt to society deserved a genuine second chance—a job, a home, and the dignity of a fresh start.

I will miss her friendship, her warmth, and her determination. Sandra leaves a legacy of opening doors for others, and New Jersey is a better place because of her.
