Statement from Hector Olmo & Eric Kulmala- Republican Candidates for Bergen County Freeholder

After being removed from office for racist slurs, former Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino re-joined the county Republican Party, saying that he cannot support the liberal policies of Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy and the extreme progressive initiatives that he says are undermining the safety and the future of NJ.
Statement from Hector Olmo & Eric Kulmala- Republican Candidates for Bergen County Freeholder
The job of law enforcement is simply to follow the letter of the law, not choose who the law applies to. We pride ourselves on living in a very diverse county. We must be able to trust that Sheriff Saudino enforces laws regardless of race and treats everyone equally. Sheriff Saudino should resign his position and allow the office to be held by someone we can trust to treat all Bergen County residents fairly.
It is also necessary to question the Sheriff’s hiring practices. Are civil rights of residents of Bergen County being violated? Given the severity of these comments and the admission of breaking the rules as it relates to hiring, we demand a federal investigation be done of all the hiring practices of Sheriff Saudino.
It is evident how close Saudino has become to County Executive James Tedesco and the Board of Freeholders. When did they know about these comments? Are they complicit?
