Statement from Opportunity NJ on New Jersey’s Continued Reopening

Since its establishment in 2016, Opportunity NJ has been dedicated to supporting statewide policies that promote job growth, improve affordability, and position New Jersey as a more competitive regional home for business interests and their workers. These key pillars remain priorities for ONJ’s founders, members, and stakeholders, along with the entities we each represent.

During the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which shuttered businesses nationwide and brought New Jersey’s unemployment rate above a staggering 15 percent, it was necessary to allow our leadership and members to step back and focus on the needs of their respective organizations — which include statewide chambers of commerce and business advocacy groups. Like many others, much of our attention over these past few months has gone toward ensuring that our employees remain safe and healthy, and securing the future of our organizations during deeply challenging and uncertain times.

With that said, ONJ’s mission to reform New Jersey taxes, reduce the burden on businesses, and make our state more affordable and regionally competitive remains as vital as ever. As we navigate the pandemic and prepare for our recovery, we will continue to fight for needed and lasting improvements to our deeply challenged business climate.

Please be on the lookout for more information and updates in the fall. Once we have a clearer direction on our state’s long-term reopening plans and strategies to get our economy back on track, ONJ will work to guarantee that our business community has a seat at the table.

To the entire New Jersey community, especially those who have been most profoundly affected by the pandemic, we extend our best wishes for health, safety, and solidarity. To learn more about Opportunity New Jersey and sign up for our newsletter, visit www.opportunitynj.org.
