Sumter: Today We Strengthen Families

Remarks on the Governor’s Signing of Women’s Healthcare Funding Bills

(TRENTON) – Assembly Majority Conference Leader Shavonda E. Sumter (D- Bergen, Passaic) released the following statement on the signing of bills restoring women’s healthcare funding:

“Today, we strengthen families by enabling women to take the best care of themselves.

“The noticeable rise in breast cancer among women as well as the closing of women’s centers throughout the state is the direct result of underfunding women’s health care over the last eight years. That time is over.

“This is overdue for New Jersey. Funding will go a long way toward ensuring access to quality healthcare for all women.

“For each of us who worked tirelessly to restore women’s health care funding, having this legislation be the first bill signed under the new Governor is a remarkable end to eight long years.”
