Swain and Tully Applaud Approval of Bi-State Gateway Development Commission

(TRENTON) – The governors of New Jersey and New York signed legislation Monday to establish a bi-state Gateway Development Commission that will facilitate the completion of the Gateway Program’s infrastructure projects. Upon the bill (A-5570) becoming law, Assembly Democrats Lisa Swain and Chris Tully (both D-Bergen, Passaic) released the following joint statement:

“This legislation is an important step in addressing the infrastructure needs of our two states. We are pleased that both New Jersey and New York are taking a proactive stance to ensure the safety and efficiency of transportation between these populous regions.

“This commission will initiate and oversee projects to enhance the capacity, reliability and security of passenger rails. These efforts include the construction of two new rail tracks under the Hudson River – an absolutely vital undertaking, as those tunnels have been deteriorating since their creation more than 100 years ago.

“The Gateway Program’s projects are great news for the residents of our district, as well as any other individual traveling between North Jersey and New York City. Commuters will be seeing many improvements in their travels over the coming years thanks to the legislation signed into law yesterday.”
