Sweeney, Greenstein Join Morris County Chamber of Commerce Panel on Economic Prosperity

Senate President Stresses Need to Turn around NJ Transit, Ensure Clean Water and Improve Business Climate

Trenton – Senate President Steve Sweeney and Senator Linda Greenstein joined the Morris County Chamber of Commerce today for a panel discussion on balancing the need to advance initiatives that improve our economy with safeguards that protect our environment, workers and citizens.

“We owe it to the people of New Jersey to grow the economy in ways that benefit all of the citizens of this state,” said Senator Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “That starts with turning around NJ Transit to guarantee that it can provide safe reliable service and I will personally be chairing the special Senate committee to ensure that that occurs. We also need to do more to protect our water quality, from getting the lead out of the water in Newark to keeping harmful algae blooms out of Lake Hopatcong.

“I am grateful the Morris County Chamber of Commerce brought us together for this conversation. When done correctly, the whole state stands to benefit from a healthy economy which protects the interest of small businesses as well as the interest of workers and the general public.”

The panel focused on ways to promote economic prosperity and reduce red tape for businesses, especially small businesses.

“We cannot discuss economic development initiatives without taking into account the big picture and considering the way these initiatives will impact the state as a whole,” said Senator Greenstein (D-Mercer/Middlesex). “As we continue our efforts to improve the business climate in the state and grow our innovation economy we must examine the unintended consequences and long-term implications every step of the way.”
