SWEENEY PRAISES CUOMO FOR ACTING TO PROVIDE IMPROVEMENTS TO PENN STATION

TRENTON – Senate President Steve Sweeney issued the following statement today praising New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for his plan to provide needed improvements to Penn Station in New York City:

“I commend Governor Cuomo for his plan to create a permanent pedestrian plaza in front of Penn Station and to work with neighborhood groups on further improvements. There is no question that we need to not only improve the reliability and safety of our mass transit system, but also the overall commuter experience by making needed upgrades to our most important commuter hubs.

“As tens of thousands of New Jersey rail commuters can attest, New York Penn Station needs a major overhaul. This is an important first step in advancing our efforts to make needed improvements to Penn Station and making sure we have a transportation system that serves the New Jersey and New York region. I look forward to working with everyone involved on similar upgrades to the Port Authority Bus Terminal once that planning process is completed.”
