Sweeney Receives ‘Person of the Year’ Award from CMAA

Trenton – Senate President Steve Sweeney received the “Person of the Year” award for the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) – Mid-Atlantic Chapter at their annual awards banquet.  The CMMA is a non-profit and non-governmental, professional association serving the construction management industry.

“I come from the trades so I know how demanding and difficult these jobs are,” said Senator Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “Now, from the legislative side, I understand how crucial each and every trades worker is to our greater communities, our states and our country. We rely on them to build our roads, our schools, our waterlines, our libraries and everything in between. Every aspect of our lives relies on these men and women and the work that they do. I am honored to receive this award and I am proud to fight for education and investments that will grow the sector’s jobs. But the true praise should be for the people in the field, working to improve our city and propelling our economy.”

The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of CMAA is comprised of nearly 600 members from southern New Jersey, the Greater Philadelphia region and northern Delaware.  In addition to the Person of the Year Award, the banquet featured construction project awards, and scholarship awards.

“Senator Sweeney was an easy choice for the year’s ‘Person of the Year’. He has been a lifelong advocate for construction workers and through his legislation, has supported the industry in immeasurable ways,” said Mike Burdalski, President, CMAA Mid-Atlantic Chapter. “The Mid-Atlantic region owes him an immense debt of gratitude and we look forward to continuing to work with him on building a better future.”

The Association was formed in 1982. Current membership is more than 14,000, including individual CM/PM practitioners, corporate members, and construction owners in both public and private sectors, along with academic and associate members. CMAA has 29 regional chapters.
