Sweeney Statement on Amazon Announcement
Trenton – Senate President Steve Sweeney issued the following statement today in response the Amazon’s announcement on the locations of its HQ2 facilities:
“While we are disappointed that Amazon did not select Newark to locate one of its new headquarters, the competition and the final selections are positive indicators. The fact that Newark was one of the finalists is a reflection of the city’s growing appeal and economic strength, and our close proximity to Queens will generate economic activity in New Jersey. We have a regional economy that easily crosses state and municipal boundaries. This underscores the importance of promoting infrastructure improvements that provide vital links between New York and New Jersey, including the Gateway project and PATH extension.
“We have to continue to do the work needed to make New Jersey the most competitive state in the country, with a skilled workforce, an affordable business climate and the opportunities for businesses and workers to grow and prosper. We will work to capitalize on the opportunities offered by Amazon’s nearby location and double down on our efforts to make New Jersey the top tier location for new economic expansion.”
