TEAM DAVIS: O’DONNELL CAMPAIGN TREASURER’S LAWSUIT AGAINST BAYONNE POLICE CALLED PHONY POLITICAL STUNT

O’DONNELL CAMPAIGN TREASURER’S LAWSUIT AGAINST BAYONNE POLICE CALLED PHONY POLITICAL STUNT

BAYONNE, NJ — In yet another sign of how desperate Jason O’Donnell is becoming as his mayoral campaign falls apart, his Campaign Treasurer just filed a totally baseless federal civil rights lawsuit against the City and the Bayonne Police Department as a last-ditch attempt to distract voters from the progress in the city with the leadership of Mayor Jimmy Davis and his team.

O’Donnell campaign treasurer Michael Mulcahy waited nine months after a judge dismissed all charges in the case to file his lawsuit – right before next Tuesday’s city election.

“This lawsuit is a sham, a scam and a phony political stunt by a desperate candidate and a losing campaign,” said Philip Swibinski, spokesman for Mayor Jimmy Davis’ campaign. “This is an insult to the Bayonne Police Department, a waste of tax dollars and a serious abuse of the court system.”

More importantly, this lawsuit is an insult to the serious issue of police brutality that is facing this country. Throughout the nation members of minority communities have been dealing with this problem and it has caused serious division between police and residents in many communities. To use it as a political stunt for your own political purposes is downright disgusting.

While Jason O’Donnell served as Police Director during the previous administration, the Bayonne Police Department was hit with several brutality lawsuits resulting in the payment of millions of dollars in settlement costs. There have been absolutely no misconduct charges filed since Jimmy Davis became Mayor four years ago.

“We have an outstanding police department and this lawsuit is a ridiculous and blatantly political abuse of our judicial process,” said Mayor Davis. “O’Donnell’s campaign treasurer should apologize to our police officers and our taxpayers for wasting everyone’s time and money.”

Recently Bayonne was named one of the safest cities in the state and the second safest in Hudson County, a testament to the excellent work being done by the BPD in recent years.
