Tedesco Demonstrates Major Momentum Heading Into General Election

Insider NJ gives results for several 2019 Primary Elections in Bergen County.

Bergen County Exec Picks Up Votes at 3-1 Rate Over GOP Challenger

GOP Nominee Barely Squeaks By Primary Opponent

HACKENSACK – In a sign of his broad support across the county and surging momentum heading into November, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco picked up votes at a rate of more than 3 to 1 over Republican nominee Norman Schmelz and totaled more than 15,000 votes over both Republican candidates combined in Tuesday’s primary.

Meanwhile, Schmelz limped across Tuesday’s finish line, barely squeaking by his GOP opponent, Paul Duggan, by fewer than 200 votes. In a further illustration of his lackluster performance Tuesday, Schmelz even came up short compared to the Republican freeholder candidates on his ballot line.

“For the past four years, Jim Tedesco has worked hard every day with only one goal in mind – and that’s to help people in this county,” said Andrew Edelson, spokesman for Jim Tedesco for County Executive. “Whether it’s getting a budget done with no tax increase, ending veterans’ homelessness, delivering on his promise of a new future for Bergen Regional, or taking a snow plow out himself to clean up after major storms, Jim Tedesco is a hands-on leader who is getting things done and improving residents’ quality of life. So it’s no surprise that there’s incredible momentum for his re-election in November.”
