The John S. Watson Institute for Urban Policy & Research and the New Jersey Urban Mayors Association Statement on the Passing of New Jersey State Senator Ronald L. Rice

UNION, N.J. — The John S. Watson Institute for Urban Policy & Research at Kean University (The Institute) and the New Jersey Urban Mayors Association (NJUMA) mourn the passing of former New Jersey State Senator Ronald L. Rice.

We have lost a true trailblazer and champion of historic legislative agendas. A staunch advocate for all New Jerseyans, Senator Rice will be remembered for his strong resolve in the face of challenging times and prompt action to address racial and social justice issues. Senator Rice spent his life and career fighting to ensure that state policies supported and advanced the interest of New Jersey youth, particularly those living in urban communities. At this time, we recall the words of the hymn, “May the Work I’ve Done Speak for Me,” recognizing that Senator Rice’s legacy will live on through the work he did as a leader for the state.

The Institute and NJUMA extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones at this time.
