The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of New Jersey’s Student Visionaries of the Year Teams Raise a Record-Breaking $3.3 Million

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) of New Jersey is proud to announce its Student Visionaries of the Year seven-week philanthropic competition has raised a record-breaking $3.3 million to support blood cancer patients, research and advocacy. LLS is excited to acknowledge the top North and South Jersey Student Visionary of the Year fundraisers: Alexa Landau of Team Ophire - No Fear! and Kate Moog and Katie Graham leading Team K&K For a Cure. Collectively in North and South Jersey, 50 teams, comprised of 106 students, participated in the campaign.
The competition, which takes place in regions across the country, brings together thousands of high school students from diverse backgrounds and experiences who are extraordinarily driven to reach their own personal best and raise funds for LLS’s mission to cure blood cancer and improve the quality of life of all patients and their families.
“These incredible volunteers are helping LLS work towards achieving our bold goal: By 2040, LLS will enable blood cancer patients across the country to gain more than one million years of life,” said Jana Boyer, LLS New Jersey’s Executive Director. “The more than $3.3 million dollars these students have raised in just 7 weeks will be so impactful on our mission.”
Alexa, a junior attending Montville Township High School in Montville, raised the most funds across the North Jersey market. Kate and Katie attend Notre Dame High School in Lawrence Township, NJ and raised the most funds across the South Jersey market.
LLS also congratulates the following candidate teams for raising more than $100,000 in North Jersey: Team Battle Rams, Team BC We Care, Team Ensure a Cure, Team Gunning for a Cure, and Team Pause for the Cause.
For more than 75 years, LLS has been United in Action, making measurable progress across each of its mission focus areas of research, patient support, and advocacy. Each candidate team chose an LLS Mission Pillar to represent and bring awareness to throughout their seven-week campaign. The three pillars of the LLS mission are research, patient education and support, and policy and advocacy. Learn more about the three mission pillars here.
“Congratulations to Alexa, Kate and Katie, our Mission Pillar winners, and all the dedicated candidates, supporters, and volunteers who contributed to this being a record-breaking year in both our North and South Jersey markets. Thank you also to all of our incredible sponsors, including our local presenting sponsor, DLA.” said Genna Clark, Campaign Development Director. “This year we celebrated 10 years of high impact across New Jersey and we are so proud of these student leaders!”
